Washington Township police are investigating a fatal pedestrian motor-vehicle crash on Ganttown Road, the third accident in two months that involved pedestrians.

The latest crash occurred at approximately 5:14 p.m. on Dec. 5, police said. A preliminary investigation indicated that a blue Kia Sportage struck the 79-year-old pedestrian as he walked in the eastbound lane. The vehicle’s driver, a Glendora woman, stayed on scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The pedestrian was later pronounced dead at Jefferson Hospital. Ganttown Road between Egg Harbor and Bells Lake roads was closed for approximately two hours while officers attended to the accident, which remains under investigation.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash can contact officer Andrew Psillakis at apsillakis@pd.twp.washington.nj.us or call (856) 256-1212.

The other two fatal crashes occurred last month. A 26-year-old Vineland woman, Destiny Esquilin, was charged on Nov. 20 with allegedly leaving the scene after her car fatally struck a 58-year-old man, John DeMarco, as he walked on Fries Mill Road in the area of Joseph Drive on Nov. 4.

Officers also responded to a crash at 8:26 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Hurffville Cross Keys Road, near Regulus Drive, directly in front of Jefferson Hospital. The pedestrian, George H. West, sustained critical injuries after he was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on Hurffville Cross Keys. The driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation, police said.
