The Palmyra school district is hiring a new superintendent.

The board of education in September approved having the New Jersey School Boards Association conduct a superintendent search, at a cost of $7,000. Mark Pease has served as interim superintendent since September 2023, after former superintendent Brian McBride left the district.

The district held a parent and community input session for the search on Nov. 12, led by association consultant Terri Lewis. She explained the roles played in the search by the board, staff and district families, and also discussed the current and future priorities a new superintendent would be expected to address.

The opinions of all stakeholders were collected and included in the job posting. The deadline for applications is Friday, Dec. 20, and the position will be available on or about July 1 of next year.

The district is “seeking an innovative, community-minded leader with a deep commitment to education and equity,” the job posting states. “Our tight-knit district, home to 1,050 PreK-12 students and 125 dedicated staff members is supported by a budget of $27.5 million.

“Palmyra school district requires a visionary superintendent who can inspire, innovate and lead with passion.”

The district shares a partnership with its sending districts, Riverton and Beverly. Qualifications for the superintendent role include:

  • A New Jersey School Administrator or Certificate of Eligibility
  • Three years as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, central office and/or principal experience preferred.
  • Three years of teaching experience
  • Experience in middle and high school
