A preliminary investigation indicated that Benyard’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Pitman Downer Road toward Chapel Heights Road when it left the roadway and struck an embankment. The impact caused the vehicle to become airborne before colliding with and severing a utility pole.

Pitman Downer Road was closed for approximately four hours while officers conducted the initial investigation. The accident remains under active investigation.
