The Lenape Regional High School District’s annual Give to Goodwill Clothing Drive is now underway.
School and community members from Cherokee, Lenape, Shawnee and Seneca high schools will attempt to surpass last year’s total of 36,524 pounds of donations. Donation boxes are stationed conveniently in each high school parking lot from now through Friday, Nov. 22. Students, faculty, family and friends are encouraged to donate bagged or boxed donations of gently-used clothing, accessories, shoes, toys, books and other small household items. Â
“This is the perfect time of year for teenagers to lend a hand at home by cleaning out closets and drawers, while also learning how their efforts can make a meaningful impact on the community,” said school Superintendent Dr. Carol Birnbohm. “We are proud to keep the momentum of this donation drive with Goodwill going into its 13th year.”
The Give to Goodwill Clothing Drive is an annual, district-wide community service project that dates back to 2011. Since then, the district has collected more than 640,000 pounds of donations for Goodwill. Proceeds from the sale of donated items fund Goodwill’s job-training programs and career services for local residents with disabilities and disadvantages. Â
“Thanks to generous donations from the community, Goodwill is able to offer life changing career building programs to local residents with disabilities and other disadvantages,” said Goodwill President and CEO Mark B. Boyd. “Together, we are helping each one attain the marketable job skills needed to become competitively employed in the local workforce.”
