Mayor Barnes Hutchins and the township council look forward to working together in the new year.

“Thank you for working with me over the last year,” said Hutchins, who is beginning his second year of mayor. “It’s been my first year in the position, and I have to say that I am really thankful for all that the professionals have done and helped me through (2025).

“I think we’ve accomplished a lot and you guys have done a fantastic job.”

Hutchins noted at council’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 6 that making decisions together has become easier. At the session, Councilman-at-Large Lynn Jeney was nominated and will serve as council president. Ward 3 Councilman Marlowe Smith was nominated and will serve as council vice president.

“I look forward to working with Mayor Hutchins and (Municipal Clerk Jamey) Eggers and to do what we can to make sure Delran is a solid township and community for our residents,” Jeney said, noting that he will fill outgoing council President Tom Lyon’s “shoes.”

“Tom has served extremely well,” Jeney observed. “I hope that I can fill the shoes that he (led with). He has a tremendous amount of experience and is a true asset to our community.”

Lyon thanked all the volunteers who continue to serve and officials nominated and appointed this year. Council approved a number of appointments during the reorganization meeting, including members of the planning board, the Recreation Advisory Committee and Delran’s green team.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our town,” he offered. “They do a lot of work for us; they’re valuable. I really appreciate their commitments on what they do and continue to do.”

Lyon also thanked the professionals for the work that they do for the township.
