A Lindenwold teen was charged with organizing an unsanctioned car meet in the Kohl’s store shopping center parking lot on March 14.

The large car meet promoted as a “season opener” last month is now the “season closer.”

That’s what township police are advising car clubs, meet groups and organizers.

“Do not come to Washington Township to hold unsanctioned car meets,” the department posted on a Facebook to emphasize zero tolerance. “We will not tolerate nuisance events that disrupt our community, endanger the public, or violate the law. Enforcement action will be taken against organizers and participants.”

A Lindenwold teen was charged with organizing an unsanctioned car meet in the Kohl’s shopping center parking lot on March 14 that was was promoted as a permitted meet from 7 to 10 p.m. to “show your builds, support the vendors, network with others and create content.”

It also noted not to “revv, play loud music, burnout and/or two step.”

Additional charges against other individuals are pending, according to police. The department got multiple calls reporting loud music, revving engines, vehicles racing and a car meet. Responding officers encountered a large, unsanctioned meet that had taken over the parking lot during normal business hours without permits or authorization.

The 19-year-old organizer was charged with disorderly conduct and municipal ordinance violations for breach of peace and for hosting a large gathering without a permit. The meet resulted in numerous complaints of racing and loud music, a hit-and-run on Greentree Road and overall disorderly behavior.

Through an investigation, it was determined the event was promoted on various social media sites as the “South Jersey MEGA MEET 2026 Season Opener.”

Detectives continue to review surveillance video from area shopping centers and social media. Another car meet planned for the following weekend at the Floor & Decor/LA Fitness parking lot was shut down by detectives.
