The Christmas Basket program this year will deliver more than 1,000 boxes of food and toys to more than 250 families.

Volunteers recently came together to organize food and toys for the annual Christmas Basket program sponsored by the Delran Knights of Columbus Council 1436.

The initiative provides disadvantaged families in the area with a complete holiday dinner, including the trimmings. Volunteers deliver toys and clothing, and financial assistance goes to families and local crisis intervention centers.

Preparations for the Christmas Basket program have been underway for months. Knights of Columbus members – along with their families, local churches, civic organizations, schools, Boy Scouts, law enforcement and athletic teams – contribute their time, energy and resources to the effort.

The volunteers will distribute and deliver more than 1,000 boxes of food and toys to more than 250 families in surrounding neighborhoods on Friday and Saturday, according to Knights of Coumbus member Richard Keegan.

The Christmas Basket program is non-denominational, with recipient eligibility determined solely by need. Its has earned recognition for outstanding philanthropic efforts within Burlington County.

Coordinator Tom “Moo” Derrico attributes the success of the program to members and supporters that also include schools, Delran police, area businesses and individual donors.
