Funnel cake from Deptford’s local Scout Pack will be one of the many items available at the event on Saturday.

Deptford’s annual food truck and craft festival will return from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Memorial Park.

Food trucks and craft vendors representing local township businesses will be on site at the park’s upper section. As of Aug. 13, there were 11 trucks and 35 craft vendors registered. The township expects to draw about 1,000 people to the event.

“We try to improve upon every event we do,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “We have more food trucks coming this year and an aim for better crowd control. We’ve been doing events like this for years and we fine tune them each year.”

Also on hand to offer funnel cakes will be Scout Pack 7062. Trucks will be inspected before the festival, per a township ordinance.

To participate in the food truck and craft festival as a food truck or craft vendor, contact the parks and recreation department, the event’s organizers, by phone at (856) 845-0804 or email deptfordparksandrec@deptford-nj.org. Many businesses will also get the chance to connect with one another.

“Our whole family’s been thinking about Big Swerve’s BBQ since trying them at the Deptford food truck festival a few weeks ago,” a representative of Buckets Cookie House noted on Facebook after last year’s event. “The jerk chicken sliders specifically. They know what they doing over there.”

The band Cynical Z will perform a show made possible by the Gloucester County Commissioners. There will also be a DJ, games for families to play and a free balloon artist. Attending will be members of township council and its administration and Police Chief Joseph Smith, among others.

“It’s going to be a fantastic day,” Medany promised. “It brings people from all over for food, vendors and summer fun. That’s what all of our events are meant to do. People also get to see Deptford Memorial Park. There’s so much to do here and we (also) want to bring attention to our great park system.”
