Along with the drive, the mall will recognize the work of South Jersey Dream Center delivery drivers Ed Schultes (left) and Nate Chambers, who are volunteers in the effort to provide needy families not only with sleepwear, but essentials like food and baby care items.

Deptford Mall is teaming with the South Jersey Dream Center (SJDC) for a holiday pajama drive expected to provide sleepwear to 500 needy children.

The SJDC is a nonprofit that provides support to families and children who also need essentials like food, clothes and baby care.

“We are beyond grateful for the support from Deptford Mall this holiday season,” said Natalie Fortunato, SJDC executive director. “Their generosity enables us to continue reaching even more families, and this recognition of our volunteers makes it more meaningful.”

She was referring to the SJDC’s recognition of two volunteers, Edward Schultes and Nate Chandler, who are donation delivery drivers for the organization and serve about four times a week.

“Edward Schultes has been a faithful volunteer since 2018, known for his reliability and compassion,” noted Lori Belsito, mall senior marketing manager. “And Nate Chandler, a retired truck driver … joined the Dream Center in 2019, bringing extensive experience and dedication.”

The mall issued $250 gift cards to the men.

The pajama drive will continue through Christmas Eve. The mall began the effort by donating $1,500 to the SJDC.

Donors can give in one of two ways: drop off any number of new children’s pajamas in sizes 0 to 5T at Santa’s toy shop in the mall’s Center Court, or give online at the SJDC website.

“At the Dream Center,” notes the SJDC website, “we believe in the power of pajamas to bring comfort and happiness to children in need … Imagine the smiles and warmth your contribution can bring to those families who struggle to provide the essentials, especially during the holidays.”
