The Deptford Community Center will see hundreds of residents drive by for the township’s shredding event on Saturday, April 5.

Deptford will host a community shred event at the township community center on Saturday, April 5, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Residents are invited to bring any important documents – such as bank statements, old tax documents and other potentially compromising documents – for free shredding to protect against fraud and identity theft. Paper will be shredded into small, unrecognizable pieces

The West Deptford-based company DocuVault will provide the shredding truck. It specializes not only in document shredding but storage, electronics recycling and destruction, and does shredding in other towns.

Deptford is expecting a few hundred people to attend the shredding. Cars will line up and police will be on hand to keep things organized. Residents – whether from the township or anywhere else in Gloucester County – are not required to exit their vehicles to participate.

Attendees are asked to bring paper only, with a maximum of five boxes per resident. The shredder cannot handle metal, binders, binder clips and plastic bags, but documents with paper clips and staples are permitted.

This shred event is the first of two this year. Another will be held on Saturday Oct. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m., also at the township community center.
