Top-notch jazz

Jazz musician and educator Jody Espina visited the township high school on Feb. 10 to old a music clinic for students of the school’s Spartan Jazz Ensemble. The visit was arranged by the ensemble’s director, Carl Cox. Espina, who specializes in the saxophone, clarinet and flute, has been director of the jazz department at the Hoff Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York, according to his website. He has also been involved with the Grammys in the Schools program and has performed at jazz festivals in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Carribean.
