Law-enforcement agencies in Gloucester County are participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” program through Jan. 1.

The initiative is supported by grants from the Department of Highway Traffic Safety to deter impaired driving through increased patrols, checkpoints and public education. The county prosecutor’s office has partnered with police to use grant money for additional county patrols.

Departments in Clayton, Deptford, East Greenwich, Elk, Franklin, Glassboro, Greenwich, Harrison, Logan, Mantua, Monroe, Paulsboro, Pitman, Washington Township, West Deptford, Westville, Woodbury and Woolwich have joined the initiative.

“Keeping our roads safe is a responsibility our law-enforcement officers take on year-round,” said Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns. “December should be a season of celebration and togetherness, not tragedy and loss.”
