County sports hall of fame inducts ’25 class

Long-time Washington Township High School Director of Athletics Kevin Murphy, and Curtis Tribbit, former quarterback and cornerback for Williamstown and a Rutgers standout, are among the 15 new inductees into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame.

The class will be honored at a banquet on Oct. 28 at the Sapphire Grand Ballroom in Almonesson.

The 2025 class includes Zack Valentine (Woodbury), Chelsea Ley (Kingsway), Rob Valli (Rowan College of South Jersey), Quincy Lee (Paulsboro), Sonny Anderson (Deptford), Curtis Tribbitt (Williamstown), Michelle Tumolo (Clearview), Gianna Bowe (Clearview), Zach Greenwald (Paulsboro), Donna Martello (West Deptford, Gateway), Meghan Slenkamp Smart (Pitman), Janet Rue Sedgwick (Pitman), Bryan Dobzanski (Delsea) and journalist Kevin Minnick.

The hall will also honor the 1975 Glassboro High School football team on the 50th anniversary of a legendary undefeated season. 

The hall inductees are:

Kevin Murphy is considered one of South Jersey’s most highly-respected athletic directors, holding the reins at WTHS since 2002. He served as athletic director at two other New Jersey schools (Jonathan Dayton High School and Hopewell Valley Central High School), and was a basketball coach at Rider University, Brandywine College of Widener University, and Drexel University for 14 seasons, according to a press release through Washington Township Public Schools.

While at Widener, Murphy also served as assistant dean of students and associate director of athletics for the Delaware campus. He is a Ursinus College graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and concentrations in biology and athletic training. Murphy earned a master’s degree in administration from Rider University.

Zack Valentine is a former Woodbury High football coach who collected 82 career wins while winning three sectional titles. Valentine also played linebacker for NFL seasons with the Steelers and Eagles. As a rookie, he won a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers.

Rob Valli A Rowan College of South Jersey veteran baseball coach who has established the top NJCAA Division III program in the nation, he recently guided the Roadrunners to three straight Division III National titles. He has also served as a Major League Baseball scout and as Temple University’s head baseball coach.

Chelsea Ley is a three-time national champion and eight-time All-American in cross country and track at Kingsway Regional who also won New Jersey Meet of Champion titles in cross country and the 3,200 meters. She also excelled at the University of Virginia in track and cross country.

Quincy Lee is one of South Jersey’s all-time boys basketball scoring leaders, with 2,542 career points playing for Paulsboro High School in the early 1990s. He later played college ball at La Salle and Monmouth.

Walter “Sonny” Anderson has more than 45 years of experience in the fields of athletics and criminal justice. As Deptford High’s track coach, he has coached eight all-state athletes, 11 sectional champions, 31 county champions and eight individual state champions.

Curtis Tribbitt is a quarterback and cornerback for Williamstown, earned all-state defensive back honors and later went on to play for Rutgers in the mid-1990s. He also excelled in basketball and also held a school record in the high jump (6-6) that stood for 24 years.

Michelle Tumolo A Clearview graduate, she has served as the Army Black Knights women’s lacrosse coach since 2021, posting a solid 65-31 career record at two colleges. She was a star at Syracuse University and played for the U.S. National Team in 2015-’16. She played at Clearview under head coach Megan Conklin and later was selected professionally by the Philly Force.

Gianna Bowe is a Clearview standout athlete who starred in lacrosse under Coach Megan Conklin. She also played lacrosse at the University of North Carolina from 2016-’19 and was a member of the 2016 national championship Team. 

Zach Greenwald A former wrestler and football star at Paulsboro High, he won a state wrestling championship and was a four-time place winner in the NJSIAA state tournament, finishing with 140 career wins. He played football at Kutztown University, where he was selected for All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors three times.

Donna Martello is a graduate of West Deptford High School and Glassboro State who served as Gateway Regional’s softball coach and assistant field hockey coach for many years. She has also been one of South Jersey’s top high-school referees with the West Chapter V Field Hockey Officials.

Bryan Dobzanski, a former Delsea Regional athlete, starred in baseball and wrestling. After a stellar career at Delsea as a pitcher, he played professional baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals organizations. In wrestling, he compiled a 155-8 career record, winning two state titles.

Meghan Slenkamp Smart, a former Pitman High tennis star, earned all-state Group 1 and all-South Jersey honors, finishing with 117 career wins. At Siena College, she led her team to the school’s first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tennis championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament in 2006.

Janet Rue Sedgwick is a Pitman High girls’ cross-country standout who won back-to-back Group 1 state championships in 1990 and 1991, the first South Jersey cross country runner to ever win two state titles. She also excelled in track and field, earning a 3,200-meter Group 1 state crown among her numerous accomplishments.

Kevin Minnick is high-school sports writer for the Courier-Post and NJ.com. The long-time Washington Township resident is a graduate of the University of Maryland and has been recognized for excellence in journalism by the NJSIAA and New Jersey Press Association.

Glassboro High School’s legendary 1975 undefeated football team, which won the South Jersey Group 1 championship with a perfect 11-0 record despite tragic circumstances that team members experienced that Fall.
