What to do with a found kitten

Not all kittens need rescuing; sometimes the best help is waiting for mom to come back. Before you scoop up a kitten, follow this quick guide:

  • Check for the mom; she may be nearby hunting.
  • Estimate the kitten’s age. Younger ones do best with their mother.
  • If the animal is in danger or sick, contact your local animal shelter or police after hours.
  • Healthy and older kittens? Consider fostering or re-homing through your network.
