Given a drought warning and fire restrictions from the state, open burning of leaves or debris in the township is prohibited.

Offending residents will be charged accordingly. The Deptford fire marshall’s office will work in conjunction with police to file criminal charges of arson, a third-degree offense. The four types of arson are:

  • A third-degree crime that occurs when someone intentionally starts a fire or causes an explosion that places another person in danger of death or injury
  • Putting a building or structure in danger of damage or destruction
  • An effort to collect insurance
  • An attempt to exempt a structure from zoning, planning, or building laws
  • Reckless damage to a forest
