Deptford hosted its annual fall festival on Oct. 12 at the township’s Andaloro Farm and drew close to 1,000 people, according to Mayor Paul Medany.

The six-hour festival was intended for all ages and featured family hayrides as well as kids’ activities. For adults, there was a beer garden and music from a local band. A custom fence painted with Halloween imagery went up and guests got pumpkins to decorate with provided art supplies.

Besides the mayor, township council and members of the police and fire departments – including Police Chief Joseph Smith – were on hand.

“It was just a fantastic event,” said Medany. “The weather was perfect for October and there was something for everyone. It was a fantastic way for people to not only meet their elected officials, but also … meet other residents of Deptford.”

Local craft vendors were also at the event and the township’s Museum of American History – across the street from the farm – offered free entry. The museum focuses on the connection between South Jersey and America’s history.

Andaloro Farm was purchased by the township years ago as a way to preserve local farmland in the area and host events like the festival.

“Close to 1,000 people got to see the farm we purchased and preserved,” Medany noted.

The fall festival was put together by the township parks and recreation department, which Medany praised for its work in organizing it and other township events.

“The whole recreation department did a fantastic job with everything,” he noted. “Especially in handling that big of a crowd. We’re fortunate to have such a great recreation department that put in the work that they do.”
