Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag on June 14, 1777, an action that took place fewer than 10 miles from Deptford, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The flag’s design has changed over the past 248 years – with the addition of 37 new states – but the original 13 alternating red and white stripes with white stars in a blue field remain. The township flew the flag at municipal properties on the holiday.
