Chief Joseph Smith and the Deptford police department are mourning the loss of Undersheriff George Johnson of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, who passed away on June 13 at the age of 68.

Prior to his service with the sheriff, Johnson spent nearly 30 years as a township officer and retired from the police department with the rank of detective sergeant. Johnson was described as a consummate professional and tireless investigator. He was a longtime resident of the township and graduate of Deptford High School – a true Spartan for life.
