“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love,” noted the poet Jamie Anderson. “It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest.
“Grief is just love with no place to go.”
“It’s been two years since May 7, 2023,” Deptford police noted in a statement about the day Deptford officer Robert “Bobby” Shisler died. “Our world shattered. Two years of grief, memories, what-ifs and genuine heartbreak.
“But sprinkled into those 731 days have been strength,” the statement added, “the strength of knowing that our hero, Sgt. Robert “Bobby” Shisler, badge No. 5273, would want us to carry on his legacy. His legacy of service, pride, dedication and loyalty. His legacy of honor and sacrifice.
“Rest assured, we will continue to carry on his legacy.”
“To the Shisler family, we love you,” police noted of their fallen colleague’s family in the statement. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to serve with Bobby. His impact on all of us will be everlasting.
“Grief is really just love, and we will forever love our brother, Bobby Shisler.
