The Deptford library will host a digital resource seminar at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, to offer insight into resources available at the library and what to do with them.

The seminar will be led by reference librarian Michelle Burns, who will give a guided tour of the library website’s access to programs.

“We have a number of resources that I think are underused, but only because people don’t know about them,” she explained. “For instance, we have a subscription to Creativebug, which is a website that offers tutorials for all kinds of crafts including crochet, knitting, papercrafts and kids crafts.”

Other digital resources are apps such as Hoopla, research sources like Ancestry.com and practice tests for schools. The seminar will also include access to career tools to help people practice interview skills and resume creation.

“Each tutorial offers a list of necessary supplies, printable instructions and a video showing exactly how to do each project.,” Burns explained. “Another exciting one is Mango Languages, which is a language learning app that offers over 70 languages, including sign language. There is also Peterson’s Test and Career Prep, which offers practice tests for PSAT, SAT, and ASVAB tests as well as a number of practice tests for professional exams including cosmetology, nursing and firefighter disciplines.

“We also have various research databases as well as genealogical websites, in addition to our e-book and audio book apps that all can be accessed with only your Deptford library card,” she added. “I will be demonstrating how to navigate each resource and encouraging everyone to use their library resources as much as possible.”

The digital resource seminar is free and open to all residents. All resources can be accessed with a card that can be obtained at the library after an application is filed that provides a valid form of photo ID and proof of address.

“Everyone with a library card has access to these resources,” said Burns. “We just have to make sure everyone knows that they’re there.”
