The Deptford Township School Board hosted their annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 6 where Stacy Gray, Linda Rosser and Juliah Davis were sworn into service.
The trio, who campaigned together, beat out four other candidates during the November elections to get the seats. Each woman will serve a term of three years on the board.
Both Gray and Rosser have served on the board in the past and last served on the board in 2023. Each woman laid out their goals and what they wish to accomplish.
“As a board member, I supported students and staffs and been an advocate for students regardless of their academic abilities,” Rosser said. “During my tenure, we made improvements in curriculum and facilities. I wish to continue to see Deptford Schools grow and improve.”
“My very first goal would be building and expanding on district communication and feedback with all stakeholders,” said Gray. “I would also focus on expanding vocational and trade opportunities for our students. Not every child takes the same path, and we must ensure that all students have access to meaningful career training and real-world experiences.”
Davis, meanwhile, will be serving on the board for the very first time. She has lived in Deptford for the past 13 years and has been known in the community for her work in Deptford Soccer Association and cleaning up the forest of Timber Creek with a local organization.
“Transportation challenges need real solutions, and I want to bring forward community ideas to address them,” she explained. “Beyond that, I prioritize enriching our academy programs, particularly the music academy, to provide students with opportunities that extend beyond traditional coursework.
“These programs showcase what makes Deptford unique, and I want to support their continued growth while ensuring families feel confident in the safety and strength of our schools.”
The school board also voted to make board member Joe McKenna president while fellow member Mark Getsinger was named vice president. All people on the board voted yes, with the exception of Justin Green who abstained from voting.
McKenna was also named as the board’s delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) and to the Gloucester County School Boards Association (GCSBA). Getsinger was named the alternate delegate to these groups.
The next meeting for the Deptford School Board is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Deptford BOE building at 6:30 p.m.
