The Deptford board of education swore in three new members at its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 2.

Incumbents Jim McDevitt and Mark Getsinger were reelected in November, having already served on the board in the past. Getsinger was named the board’s vice president and McDevitt will head the district’s transportation committee. Justin Green will serve on the board for the first time at just 19 years old. The life-long township resident is majoring in political science at Rowan University.

Each new board member will serve a three-year term.

“As a former student member of the Gloucester County Vocational Technical School District Board, I have first-hand experience advocating for equitable policies,” said Green. “I’m driven to ensure that the board is transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of our community.

“I believe it’s time for a new generation of leadership to step up,” he added, “and I am committed to working towards a brighter future for all Deptford students.”

The meeting also saw member Joe McKenna named board president in a near-unanimous vote. Green abstained.

“One area of concentration is working with all school district personal, the administration and our educators,” McKenna noted, “to ensure the best in education and educational opportunities for our students, working with parents to gain input into our education system here.”

McKenna will also be the board’s delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association and the Gloucester County School Boards Association. Getsinger was named an alternate delegate.

Marmero Law LLC will be the district’s solicitor from Feb. 1 through Jan. 31, 2026. Garrison Architects will be the architect of record beginning Thursday and continuing through Jan. 15, 2026.

The next board of ed meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m.
