Shady Lane Elementary School’s fifth-graders presented their versions of a wax museum on March 14.

Over the last several weeks, students chose a figure to study in conjunction with Black and Women’s History months. They spent time researching the individual, producing writing and visual aids and creating a costume and dialogue to “become” their chosen person.

The students posed as statues that came to life to have in-character conversations with visitors, who included their families.

“We were blown away by their level of knowledge, attention to detail and confidence in playing their roles,” the school district noted of the students in a Facebook post. “Thank you to the families who were able to join us, our phenomenal fifth-grade staff for preparing their classes for the event and of course to our students for their outstanding performances.”
