The township library will host its Kite Day event on Wednesday, July 23, at 2 p.m.

The activity enables kids to create their own custom kites and fly them at the park across the street. The event, according to librarian Michelle Burns, is an annual summer tradition.

“We get a bunch of kites and kids from all over the township come to the park across the street from our library,” she said. “There’s a short story time, and then the kids can fly their kites in the park. We’ve been doing this for several years and it’s always a highlight of the summer, for us and for the kids.”

The untitled short story will focus on kites and supplies will be provided by the library. There will be one kite per child and families are encouraged to show up early to access limited supplies. The free event is open to kids from preschool to fifth grade.

Among other summer events at the library are young adult games every Thursday at 3 p.m. beginning on Thursday, July 10. Kids of all ages can enjoy the Digger and David puppet show on Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m., and a study skills refresher course for students entering middle or high school on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m.

“It’s (Kite Day) a great opportunity to meet new friends and have fun at the library park,” said Burns.
