Deptford council named Boucher Funeral Home the township’s business of the month for December and recognized winners of the annual Halloween house-decorating contest as citizens of the month at its meeting on Dec. 1.
The funeral home has been operating in Deptford since 1993, according to its website, and is involved in community service events. Owner Mark Boucher and some of his employees were on hand at the meeting to receives certificates.
“It’s a coincidence that it was 35 years ago that my wife and I came here to apply for a variance to open a funeral home,” Boucher recalled. “It was only fitting that Deptford residents would do that. Ever since then, we’ve had tremendous success. The township is very supportive, the council and mayor, the police department.
“Everyone has been supportive of us.”
Boucher credited his employees for the funeral home’s success.
“The staff I have is just unbelievable,” he said. “We ask every family, after we serve them, we don’t ask them if we’ve met their expectations. We ask if we exceeded their expectations, and we always have positive comments coming back.
“Not only has this staff exceeded our family’s expectations, they’ve exceeded mine as well.”
The top four winners in the township’s annual decorating contest were also recognized. The parks and recreation department helped judge the competition and the addresses of all entrants are posted online so people can see the decorations first hand.
“We had a great turnout in entries for our house-decorating contest,” said recreation director Charlie Kirchner. “Our committee went out, they judged and we picked the top four.”
The fourth-place winner was Sherry Mecouch, third place went to Adam Jakubowski, second place went to Stella and Scott Gesner and the first-place winner was Janet Osorio. Each received a certificate and a Lowe’s gift card from the township.
