Deptford will host a family bingo night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at the community center gymnasium.
The gym will be filled with tables at which families can compete against each other. Prizes will include mugs filled with snacks and gift cards to township businesses and restaurants. Light food and beverages will be served.
The event – spun off from the township’s monthly senior bingo – is meant to provide families an occasion to be together.
“We got the idea because of the different bingo games they do at camps and stuff like that,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “We didn’t think there was enough family events, so we decided to add one. We did it (family bingo) twice last year and it was a great event. It ended up being really popular.”
The township expects between 250 to 300 attendees, and the mayor and council will be on hand to talk to residents.
“Events like these build community spirit,” Medany noted. “Everything we do is to help grow it. This particular one brings families together to meet one another. People get the chance to meet elected officials, a chance they might not get otherwise.”
Bingo is organized by the parks and recreation department, whose staffers volunteer at the event.
“The recreation department does a fantastic job with these events,” said Medany. “I give them a lot of credit for them and they deserve it.”
Family bingo night is free but advance registration is required by calling the parks and recreation department at (856) 845-0804 or emailing to deptfordparksandrec@deptford-nj.org.
