The Delran Township Police Department has received multiple questions and complaints regarding E-Bikes and E-Scooters. It is important to be aware of the laws and regulations to ensure everyone’s safety on the road.

E-Bike and E-Scooter Laws:

  • E-Bikes and E-Scooters are regulated like bicycles.
  • E-Scooters and E-Bikes (under 20 miles per hour – mph) do not require a license or regulation.
  • Motorized bikes (up to 28 mph) require a license, registration and insurance.
  • Must ride in the same direction as traffic and obey all traffic lights.
  • All drivers are advised to wear helmets; however, helmets are required for anyone under the age of 17.
  • Must park devices without blocking pedestrian and/or wheelchair access.
  • Should not ride on sidewalks or off-road trails where prohibited.
