To encourage shopping at local farm markets, the Burlington County Commissioners are visiting some over the next few months to showcase each market and its vendors. First up was the Marlton Farmer’s Market.
Burlington County residents don’t need to travel far to find fresh, locally grown produce and other delicacies.
There are dozens of community farmers markets and farm stands throughout the county, so the county commissioners are encouraging residents to shop at them as fall arrives by visiting area markets themselves in the next few months to showcase the sellers and their vendors.
Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel says the visits are meant to help local farmers succeed.
“One way is by encouraging residents to shop at farm stands or farm markets,” she noted. “Buying locally sourced fruits, vegetables and other farm products is a healthy choice, and it helps keep agriculture a strong industry in our county.”
First up for a visit by commissioners was the Marlton Farmer’s Market at Evesboro Downs Park, which will close out its summer season on Saturday. The market hosted various activities during summer, including a water slide, petting zoo and magic show.
“Evesham is gaining national attention as one of the most sought-after places to live in America because of attractions like the Marlton Farmer’s Market,” said Mayor Jacqueline Veasy. “(The market) brings our residents together and helps support area farms and small business vendors.
“We’re wrapping up one of our best seasons yet.”
The county has updated its online farmers market directory at the county website, under Business Resources. More than three dozen markets are currently listed, and each entry includes a market’s name, location and hours and links to its websites.
Farms and community markets who want to be listed should email the county Public Information Office at news@co.burlington.nj.us.
