The county’s first farm-to-table harvest dinner next month will feature three courses prepared by a local chef and culinary students at Rowan College at Burlington County.

Burlington County’s rich agricultural heritage will be showcased during the county’s first farm-to-table harvest dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the county agricultural center.

The three-course seasonal meal will be prepared by a local chef and culinary students at Rowan College at Burlington County with locally sourced ingredients from county farms. All proceeds will benefit the New Jersey Agricultural Society’s Farmers Against Hunger program.

Founded in 1996, the program focuses on collecting surplus produce from farms and farmer’s markets for distribution to food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries. It also offers education about New Jersey-grown fruits, vegetables, nutrition and cooking.

Chef Desmond Keefe, director of Rowan’s culinary arts school, will lead the team of students. Guests at the harvest dinner will have the choice of meal options: a chicken entree, Moussaka (Greek beef and eggplant casserole) or a vegetarian dish. Appetizers and dessert will also be served, and guests can bring their own beverages.
