Burlington County has another library improvement project in the works that will be aided by $850,000 in federal funding secured by Congressman Herb Conaway.
“The Burlington County Library is a stronghold of knowledge and an engine of opportunity that is open and accessible to all,” Conaway said during a visit to the main branch in Westampton. “This investment will help improve an underutilized area to create a new modern space for learning, collaboration, creation, and community.
“I am proud to deliver federal funding to advance a project that will help the library continue to meet both current and future needs.”
Renovation plans are still in early development but are focused on redesigning underutilized portions of the library’s general adult services area to create a new multi-purpose Learning Commons space. It will be designed to support teaching, training, meetings, exhibits, remote work, independent study and social of civic gatherings.
Other new resources will include a technology center, study rooms, individual pods for focused study and a local history and exhibit room.
- The county’s Department of Public Works, construction services division, will complete the renovations rather than hiring a private contractor. Tentative plans call for work to begin next year.
- In addition to the $850,000 secured by Conaway, the library system expects to tap a share of a $1-million state grant secured by state Sen. Troy Singleton in the state budget for improvements. It has also helped fund major renovations at the Pemberton library branch, ongoing work at the Cinnaminson branch and future renovations at the Evesham branch.

Congressman Herb Conaway presented the Westampton library with a ceremonial check representing funding he helped secure for improvements to the branch.
