Special to The Sun

The holidays can be a lonely for some residents, including some seniors who may live in insolation.

Burlington County offers a Congregate Nutrition Program that provides participating seniors a nutritious, catered meal, along with opportunities to interact and socialize with peers and other residents.

The program is run by the Burlington County Office on Aging. Meals are served weekdays at the Carslake Community Center, 207 Crosswicks Street in Bordentown City; First Baptist Church of Beverly, 405 Broad Street in Beverly; Samuel Miller Building, 256 Clifton Avenue in Mount Holly; and the Bethel AME Church, 512 North Church Street in Moorestown.

The Samuel Miller site in Mount Holly offers lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The other locations operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any county resident that is 60 years or older is eligible to attend. Donations are accepted but no attendee is refused a meal.

Last year, more than 29,000 meals were served by the program.

This program is offered to county seniors throughout the year.

Seniors interested in participating are asked to make reservations in advance to ensure enough meals are available at each site. To make a reservation, call the Burlington County Office on Aging at 609-265-5069.
