The inaugural Burlington County Breast Cancer Brunch and Learn will feature opportunities for both insured and uninsured patients to receive free mammograms from Jefferson Health. Separate registrations are required for both the event and the mammograms.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of the occasion the Burlington County Health Department is organizing a special event designed to share information about available resources and the importance of early detection.

The inaugural Breast Cancer Brunch & Learn will be held at the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences in Mount Holly on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees will be served a light brunch and have opportunities to connect and learn from breast cancer survivors, supporters and health care professionals.

Free mammograms from Jefferson Health staff will also be offered for both insured and uninsured patients who live and work in Burlington County.

The event is free, but registration is required as space is limited.

“There are over four million breast cancer survivors in the United States, and I am one of them,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “The disease can be beaten, but early detection is key. Mammograms and screenings save lives, so we continue to encourage residents to get screened and show support for those battling breast cancer, along with breast cancer survivors and those who have lost a loved one to the disease. The Health Department’s upcoming Breast Cancer Brunch is a fantastic way to raise awareness and make strides with prevention and early detection.”

To register for the Breast Cancer Brunch and Learn, visit https://burlingtoncountynj.formstack.com/forms/bchd_breast_cancer_event_participant_registration_form.

Registration for a mammogram from Jefferson Health must be done separately at https://burlingtoncounty.formstack.com/forms/breast_cancer_event_mammogram_screening.

The mammograms are reserved for residents 40 or older who have not had a mammogram in the last 365 days and are not showing any symptoms.

Patients with a primary care physician should bring a prescription. Residents without a primary care prescription or insurance are still eligible for mammograms. They can receive a prescription at the event.

There will also be workshops featuring health care professionals and breast cancer survivors, information tables from providers and advocates, plus raffles and door prizes.
