Applications are now being accepted online and must be submitted by May 30 at 4:30 p.m.

The week-long program is more than just a peek behind the badge, it teaches discipline, respect, and responsibility, all while fostering positive relationships between young people and local law enforcement. Held in partnership with emergency service agencies from across Camden County, the academy includes physical fitness, mock drills and scenarios, team-building exercises and presentations from professionals in public-safety fields.

Nationwide, junior police academies have gained traction as powerful community engagement tools. They offer a constructive outlet for youth during the summer months and plant the seeds for future interest in law-enforcement careers. Studies have shown that such programs not only improve youth confidence and teamwork skills, but can also reduce negative perceptions of police by creating authentic, humanizing experiences with officers.

Participants in Berlin’s academy will receive uniforms, participate in daily flag ceremonies, learn about emergency preparedness and even take part in simulated investigations or mock traffic stops – all designed to mirror real police academy training in an age-appropriate setting.

Local schools – including Our Lady of Mount Carmel Regional School and Berlin Community School – have been supporters of the program, often encouraging their students to apply early due to limited spots.

Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their kids can complete the application form online at https://form.jotform.com/240785542049158. Slots are expected to fill quickly.

For more information and updates, visit the Berlin police website or follow the department’s official social media pages.
