New Jersey American Water’s drinking water meets or surpasses both state and federal water-quality standards for all regulated substances, including lead, according to the company’s 2026 water quality report.

New Jersey American –  a subsidiary of American Water - is the largest regulated water utility in the state,  with about 875 dedicated employees who provide affordable water and wastewater services to approximately 3 million people.

The 2026 annual water quality report, also referred to as a “consumer confidence report,” determined the quality of water provided by the utility by using data collected from water-quality testing in its local systems between January and December of last year.

The report compares the compounds detected in the treated drinking water to compliance standards established by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. As an additional layer of education and transparency, the report also details results of tests conducted for certain unregulated compounds, in areas where they are present and thus treated to achieve levels below recommended health guidelines.

This year’s report includes important information related to the company’s Lead Service Line Replacement efforts. The state enacted legislation in 2021 that requires all water providers to share with customers the material of the utility-owned and customer-owned service lines that lead to their properties, to notify customers with service lines that are lead or galvanized steel and to replace them.

New Jersey American Water regularly tests for lead in drinking water and it continues to meet state and federal water- quality regulations, including those set for lead.

Customers can access the water-quality report at New Jersey American Water’s website and search by zip code. The site also provides a video guide.

Printed copies of the report are also available to customers by calling the company’s customer service center at (800) 272-1325. For more information, visit www.newjerseyamwater.com.
