Burlington County is holding a special Trunk-or-Treat designed to ensure all children and adults can experience some spooky fun and games during the Halloween season.
The Burlington County Trunk-or-Treat for Children with Special Needs will be held Saturday, October 24, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Burlington County Special Services School (20 Pioneer Boulevard, Westampton).
The free event provides a safe and inclusive destination for children, teens, and adults to dress in costume and visit decorated cars and emergency vehicles to receive small toys, candy, and other goodies. There will also be music, games, holiday crafts, and more.
“Halloween is an exciting holiday for children and adults alike, but trick-or-treating can be overwhelming for some and potentially unsafe,” said Burlington County Sheriff James Kostoplis. “Burlington County’s Trunk-or-Treat offers an inclusive, safe place for children with special needs and their families to trick-or-treat with Burlington County Special Services School teachers, administrators, law enforcement, first responders, and Burlington County officials, rather than visiting the doorsteps of strangers.”
“As a parent with a special needs child, I know how important it is for them to feel included and part of a community,” added Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo. “This truck-or-treat allows children of varying abilities to dress up and enjoy Halloween and the fun associated with the holiday in a safe, welcoming environment. I’m looking forward to it.”
This year marks the 8th Trunk-or-Treat organized by the Sheriff’s Office, Burlington County Special Services School District, and Burlington County Commissioners Office. The Burlington County Department of Human Services, Burlington County Department of Public Safety, Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Burlington County Parks System, Burlington County Animal Shelter, and various local first responders are also expected to participate, along with teachers, staff, and administrators from the Special Services School District.
The Burlington County Special Services School District (BCSSSD) will also host tours of the Westampton campus throughout the event. Prospective families can walk through classrooms, see where students learn each day, and meet the teachers and staff who work with them. District representatives will be on hand to answer questions about programs, eligibility, and enrollment. No registration is required.
“This event allows us not only to bring families together for a fun afternoon, but also to welcome our community into BCSSSD,” said Special Services School District Superintendent Dr. Ashanti Holley. “We want families to see our schools, meet members of our team, and learn more about the programs and services available to support students throughout Burlington County.”
“Trunk-or-Treat is a great event that brings together Burlington County Sheriff officers, first responders, and school officials to interact with families they serve in a fun atmosphere,” added Burlington County Commissioner Tyler Burrell, liaison to Burlington County schools. “It’s an event that unite communities for a safe celebration of the holiday, and it always delivers a lot of joy to children and their families.”
