The girls are back on top.

Clearview Regional High School’s girls varsity tennis team competed in the 2026 Gloucester County Tournament last month. After a weekend of matches on September 19 and 20, the singles and doubles players made their way through the bracket and earned the entire team the champion title.

This is the sixth time the tennis team has won the Gloucester County championship title over the last seven seasons. The team earned five consecutive wins from 2020 to 2024. Last season, Clearview placed second, but they made their way back home this season.

“Pitman High School won it last year, but we were excited to win it back this year,” said Colleen Senor, the girls tennis head coach and a math teacher. She has been coaching the team since 2017. Her assistant coach is math teacher and boys tennis head coach Kevin Hanrahan.

“Five of our 7 varsity players made it to the semifinals, so it was exciting to have already clinched the team title going into the second day of the tournament. By that point, our girls were playing for their individual singles and doubles titles,” Senor said.

First doubles Helena Homann and Lily Culling, second doubles Katherine Cianfrani and Taylor Cossaboon, and first singles Serena Huang all made it to the semi-finals.

Second doubles won the entire doubles bracket, beating their own team’s first doubles and defeating Pitman High School’s first doubles in the final match.

“Last year (our) same doubles pairs went to the finals, losing to Pitman, so it was sweet redemption for them this year,” she said.

Clearview’s first doubles placed third in the doubles tournament, and first singles Huang placed third in the singles tournament.

The whole team earned a large trophy for the champion title, and the doubles and single winners also were awarded individual trophies.

“Going into the Gloucester County Tournament, we knew that we’d face some tough competition. We had already played Kingsway and GCIT this season, so we knew that the singles would have some tough match ups, and we had already played Pitman and Washington Township, so we knew the doubles would be challenging,” Senor said.

“We had an open conversation with the doubles players about possibly facing each other in the semifinals, which happened in last year’s tournament, and we reminded them that it would count as a challenge match, so whoever won would either remain or become 1st doubles,” she continued. “Just at it happened last year, our second doubles beat our first doubles in a very close match.”

At the end of September, the team was the second seed in the 2026 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Tennis Tournament in the South Jersey, Group 3 division.

The team had a bye for the first round, and they played against Middletown High School South on October 1. Clearview lost to Middletown South, removing them from the tournament.
