This September, Camden County Library System invites you to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month and discover how a library card can hit all the right notes, no matter what your interests are.
With a library card, you can do more than check out books. From free classes and job resources to homework help, streaming media, and cultural events, today’s libraries connect communities to information, inspiration, and each other.
An initiative of the American Library Association, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September since 1987 to mark the beginning of the school year, combat illiteracy, and encourage communities everywhere to explore all the offerings that having a library card unlocks. Today, thousands of public libraries and schools nationwide participate in the month-long celebration each fall.
This year’s theme, “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes,” is a reminder that libraries offer something for everyone no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you’re checking out a classic story or trying something new, finding harmony at the library’s programs, finding your focus in a study room or vibing out in a cozy nook, or composing your future with new skills, there’s a seat in the front row at the library for you, and your library card is the ticket.
“Libraries open doors to knowledge, creativity, and essential services,” said Commissioner Colleen Bianco Bezich, liaison to the Camden County Library System. “This Library Card Sign-up Month, I encourage all our residents to sign up for a library card and take full advantage of everything our libraries provide.”
The Camden County Library offers extensive print and digital collections, meeting spaces, technology instruction, databases, museum passes, and even a bakeware collection. It provides programs for all ages, such as story times, book clubs, computer classes, and crafts, along with disability assistance materials. The library also supports the community through a full-time social worker, Literacy Volunteers of Camden County, and one‑on‑one help by appointment.
“Last September alone, we welcomed nearly 1,000 new Camden County cardholders, a number that demonstrates how much our community values the services and resources we offer,” said Linda Devlin, Camden County Library Director. “As we celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month this September, we’re setting an ambitious goal to double that number before the start of the new year, inviting everyone to discover the endless opportunities a library card provides.”
