Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz provided updates on voting by mail for the upcoming General Election following the recent U.S. Supreme Court action concerning federal requirements for mail-in ballots.
“Burlington County looks forward to continuing to administer vote-by-mail in accordance with current New Jersey State law and guidance from state election officials, as we have done successfully for over a decade,” said Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz. “While the outcome of current litigation with the federal government regarding this matter remains uncertain, Burlington County election officials will closely monitor any developments and will make necessary adjustments consistent with applicable law and official guidance. We will provide updates should there be any changes that affect registered Burlington County voters or the administration of vote-by-mail for the upcoming general election.”
“Burlington County voters continue to have several voting options available to them under New Jersey law and are encouraged to select the option that best meets their personal circumstances and to consult official election resources for current voting information,” Schwartz continued.
Vote-by-mail ballots are still available for any voters who would like to use that method to vote, and voters who have requested one in previous elections can still expect them to arrive in a timely manner before the General Election.
The County Clerk’s Office will begin mailing ballots for the 2026 General Election on Saturday, September 19.
Registered voters may apply in person, by mail, or online for a mail-in ballot. Applications must be received by October 27 for the County Clerk’s Office to mail the ballot to you. For applications received between 8:00 a.m. on October 28 and 3:00 p.m. on November 2, ballots can be picked up in person at the County Clerk’s Office (50 Rancocas Road, Mount Holly) Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or at the Burlington County Elections Building (301 Harper Drive, Moorestown) Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Mail-in ballots can be returned in person or by mail to the Burlington County Elections Building or dropped off at one of the 29 designated Secure Ballot Drop Box locations across Burlington County by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
For those returning ballots via mail, ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day and received no later than six (6) days after the election. Voters who are returning a ballot within two weeks of an election are strongly encouraged to utilize a secure drop box or in-person delivery instead of the mail.
Registered voters can also vote in person during the early voting period or on Election Day.
Voters currently signed up to receive a vote-by-mail ballot who wish to vote in-person during the early voting period or on Election Day may opt out from receiving a vote-by-mail ballot. To do so, complete the following Opt-Out Form (PDF) and submit by Friday, September 11. After that date, voters cannot opt of receiving a VBM ballot but may still vote-in person with a provisional ballot.
Early voting will occur between Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, November 1. Any registered voter in Burlington County can vote at any one of Burlington County’s 10 early voting locations.
In-person voting on Election Day will take place on Tuesday, November 3, at local polling places from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
