Apple cider and apple ice cream – sweet treats that mesh with the impending fall season.

First Methodist Church (FMC) of Moorestown will host its third annual Apple Festival on Friday, Sept. 18, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will be held rain or shine.

This year’s event – co-chaired by Devika Gill and Nicole McGough – will include original activities as well as a few new ones. Expect face painting, a bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course, magician Brian Richards, a juggler, balloon art, live music, yard games and kids crafts, and, of course, a variety of apple-flavored desserts. Festival entry is $25 per family (up to five members), $8 per adult and $6 per child (under 10-years-old). Kids under three are free. Folks Farm and Market, a peach and apple orchard located in Moorestown, will be providing the event’s apples, and local businesses including Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Custards Last Stand are also supporting the event with donations. Additional items for purchase will include Kona Ice apple slushies, apple cider donuts, apple butter and apple sauce from Russo’s Fruit & Vegetable Farm, apple cider, fall mums, apples by the bag, picnic food and baked goods, and handcrafted items made by church members.

“It’s a really wonderful thing that people are happy to be there,” said Lisa Kulp, member of the church’s Apple Festival Committee, part of the church’s Outreach Committee.

Event proceeds will benefit the church’s ministries and community programs. Almost 1,000 people – attendees plus volunteers – participated in last year’s festival, so Kulp is ready to see the magic happen again.

“We love providing this opportunity to our community,” she said. “You can’t run a community program like this without dedicated volunteers, of which we are so thankful that our church congregation members and attendees want to come and help and be a part of the fun. We could not do this without volunteers. It takes a big village, but it’s all worth it. It’s a lot of fun.”

Additional events at FMC include a summer social hour on the sidewalk outside the Pleasant Valley entrance from 9 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6; coffee hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27; mahjong from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7; FMC’s Youth Group kick-off BBQ from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13; a support circle for anyone experiencing the loss of a loved one from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14; Gather and Stitch from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 3; coffee hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4; Monthly Munch and Mingle, a lunch outing for seniors from FMC and the community, from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, Monthly Munch and Mingle from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2; and Gather and Stitch from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 7.
