Crowds gathered at the Winslow Township middle school and high school campus for a pre-July 4 celebration on July 3.
Upon entering the school grounds, visitors were greeted by festive red, white, and blue banners hanging from the chain-link fences. Local vendors and food trucks lined the schools’ front and back parking lots, while a fire truck bearing an American flag billowed in the breeze, setting the tone for a day of festivity and family-friendly fun that even the intense summer heat couldn’t deter.
A few booths at the event offered giveaways such as decorative hats, fans, and other holiday-themed items. The Winslow Township Fire Department also gave away plastic firefighter hats for children.
Winslow Township Administrator Joseph Gallagher was among the attendees enjoying the event.
“We’re just excited to have the entire Winslow community come out for the 250th celebration of the United States in Winslow Township,” Gallagher said. “It’s a little bit warm, but we’re gonna have a great night, with plenty of refreshments.”
Committeeman Charles Flamini joined Gallagher in participating in the festivities.
“We’re here for the fireworks,” Flamini said. “It’s always a great time, so we’re looking forward to having a nice crowd and watching some great fireworks.”
In addition to the Winslow Township Fire Department’s booth, the Winslow Township Police Department also greeted residents at its booth.
Sergeant Matthew Gibson stood alongside fellow officers, chatting with residents.
“We’re happy that the fireworks were brought back several years ago by Mayor Lawrence and Township Administrator Joe Gallagher,” Gibson said. “It’s a great event. It’s probably one of the best fireworks displays in South Jersey, I would say.”
“They do a phenomenal job,” he continued. “It’s just a great event, and every town should have town-wide fireworks for their residents if they’re able to do it.”
The day concluded with a fireworks display that lit up the night sky with a vibrant array of colors.
