Crowds of families and friends gathered at George Ormsby Memorial Stadium on June 17 in anticipation of Williamstown High School’s 2026 graduation.
An estimated 415 students earned degrees in a year that coincides with the 250th anniversary of America.
A flag salute was led by Kendall Hand, class of 2026 secretary, and Salvatore Everhart performed the national anthem. Principal Christine Stanton delivered the welcome and introductions, addressing the graduates with heartfelt words.
“I’ve seen your successes and your struggles,” she stated. “I’ve seen you celebrate victories on athletic fields, stages, classrooms and at pep rallies. I’ve seen you overcome obstacles that at the time may have seemed impossible, and I’ve watched you develop into a class that has left a lasting mark on Williamstown High School.”
Valedictorian Kelley Li Chen took the podium to address her peers.
“Thank you to all the faculty, family, friends and loved ones for being here today to celebrate such a monumental moment for all the graduates,” she noted. “Let’s leave here today grateful, grateful for where we’ve been, for where we’re going and for the people who helped us get there.
“Congratulations to the Class of 2026.”
Class vice president Haley Gabbianelli shared inspirational words. Deon De Vera and Piper Garcia performed “You’ll Go Far,” by Noah Kahan, and Vienna Hare, class treasurer, recited a poem she wrote titled, “As Far As You Can Go.”
School Superintendent Dr. Brian McBride presented the graduates by name and offered them encouraging words as they go out into the world.
“Graduates, today we celebrate your achievements, your perseverance and your growth,” he remarked. “Each of you has traveled a unique path to get to this stage. Our community is strengthened by the many backgrounds, cultures, experiences, talents, perspectives and dreams represented by this graduating class.”
Besides Stanton and McBride, diplomas were distributed by class advisors Samantha Lociero and Ashley Slade. And in a traditional farewell, the class of ’26 tossed their caps in the air to signify the close of one chapter and the beginning of another.
