Besides the township, firefighters from Erial, Pine Hill and Winslow helped extinguish the blaze. Two other adult residents of the home escaped without injury.

Three township police officers suffered minor injuries while inside the residence. Two were treated on scene and one was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.

Jerome Morris has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon. He was transported from the home to an area hospital, then remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the county fire marshal’s office and additional charges related to it may be filed later depending on the findings.
