Township fills two SLEO vacancies

Evesham Township swore in two new SLEO officers to its April meeting.

“For those who are not familiar, (SLEO III officers) are retired officers who work in our schools,” said Police Chief Thomas Reinholt. So in Cherokee High School, the school district, Y.A.L.E., and St. Joan of Arc, our class III officers fill those responsibilities. The two openings (for (SLEO III officers) are from vacancies.”

The new officers are Misty Weiss and Glenn Bailey.

Weiss joined the Maple Shade Police Department in 1999, making history as its first female officer. She has served the department in various capacities over her 26-year career, including D.A.R.E. officer, community policing, field training and the department’s longest serving SRO (School Resource Officer.

In 2025, Weiss retired from the Maple Shade department as a corporal, the first woman to do so in its history. She was twice selected twice by her peers as officer of the year and was instrumental in working with the police chief and the police chaplains to establish a youth diversionary program. That work was recognized by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Weiss joins her nephew, Lt. Josh Weiss in the Evesham police department. Her husband Brian is also a captain in the Maple Shade department, and her son Colton is currently at the academy for the Mount Laurel department.

Bailey grew up in Haddon Township and graduated from the police academy in 1996. He served as a Class II Officer with that township until 1999. then was hired by the Audubon department in 2000. Eight years later, Bailey joined the Lindenwold department, serving 25 years as an officer before his retirement last year.

In the last several years of his policing career, Bailey became an SRO and was assigned to Lindenwold’s high school and middle school. There Bailey was also a L.E.A.D. instructor and junior police academy instructor, and assisted in various community events.
