April 8 – Homeschool Hangout: Art Adventures – 2 p.m.

Homeschool Hangout is a new program for homeschooling families. Each week we will have a different topic or activity to help support our homeschooling families. Best for children in Kindergarten-5th grade

April 8 – Art Adventures: Jerry Pinkney – 6:30 p.m.

For artists in grades K-5. Join us as each month as we learn about a famous artist or illustrator, explore their techniques, and give their art style a try ourselves!

April 9 – Messy Art: Tissue Paper and Glue – 1:30 p.m.

Experience and explore different art mediums with your toddler or preschooler. Best for ages 2-5 years. Dress for a mess! We will read a short story and then complete a messy craft. This month we will use tissue paper and glue to create spring-like flowers. 

April 9 – NoveList. Find Your Next Read or Curate Your Own Book Club! – 6 p.m.

April 10 – Crafty Corner – 11:30 a.m.

Come to the library once a month to make a fun and easy craft with us!

Open to Heggan cardholders only. Advanced registration is required.

April 10 – Mah Jongg Club – 1:30 p.m. Open to all adults. Advance registration required.

April 10 – Drop-In Tech Time – 2 p.m.

If your gadgets give you fits, we’ll try to get you out of the pits. Bring your devices in for help. Adult Services Librarian Jenn will offer drop-in assistance at Small Study Room A. No appointment is necessary. Please note, the librarian is not trained in computer repair, so she will not be able to assist with certain issues. Tech assistance is first come, first serve. 

April 11 – Knitting and Crocheting – 2:30 p.m.

Join our knitting and crocheting club! If you want to learn how to knit or crochet, our volunteer, Flora Bacchues, will be on hand to teach you.  Please bring a skein of yarn, and a set of size 8 knitting needles and/or an H or I crochet hook.

If you already know how to knit or crochet, you’re welcome to join the club to socialize while you work!

This program is open to everyone ages 18 and up.  Advance online or phone registration is required.   

April 12 – Take A Seat: Chair Yoga With Dana – 1:30 p.m.

Join us for our chair yoga class where we focus on moving, breathing, building strength & flexibility, and end with relaxation! This class is perfect for all levels of students, including those who are new to yoga, as we use the chair to help balance, support, and challenge us.  

**Please wear comfortable clothing that you will be able to move freely in.** 

Attendees must arrive five minutes before the start of the class. Please understand latecomers will not be admitted.

This class is limited to Margaret E Heggan cardholders due to its size and popularity. The class will be held in our adult meeting room. Advance registration is required.

April 13 – Computer Practice – 10 a.m.

Feel like you don’t know where to start when it comes to learning the basic functions of the computer? Where better than to practice at the library!

This is a low-stress, low-stakes way to build up your computer chops! There will be computers designated for your practice to click around and get the feel for basic functionality and proficiency! There will also be a librarian on hand to help you if you run into any issues or have any questions.

April 13 – Searching and Applying for Jobs Online – 1 p.m.

Learn some tips and tricks for searching and applying for jobs online. Presented by a representative from the Center for People in Transition at Rowan College of South Jersey.

Open to all adults. Registration is required.

April 13 – TAB: Teen Crafts – 4 p.m.

It’s time for a Teen and Tween Crafting! Ready to transform basic supplies into something creative and wonderful? Interested in jewelry making, origami, diamond art, unique accessories, ornaments, paper beadmaking, bookbinding, or card making? This group might be for you. Using crafting supplies, we’ll make paper beads, duct tape fabric, or clay shapes to turn into something amazing. Using found items, we’ll use our creativity to make something unique.

From suncatchers and squishy shapes to journals and satchels, the possibilities are endless. What will we be working on this month? Come join us to find out and CRAFT something unique! Everything needed will be supplied. Interested teens in grades 6-12 should register online. Preference is given to Heggan cardholders. Register now, supplies are limited.

April 13 – Teen Art Club – 5 p.m.

Explore your interest in art with friends. Participants will have time, space, and materials to create. This monthly club will be led by a Teen Advisory Board member and is meant to allow teens to explore all things ART! Come check it out and have fun while exploring favorite artistic mediums and hanging out with like-minded friends.
Meetings include discussions, art challenges, time for participants to work on individual projects, collaborations with fellow members, or simply hanging out while incubating one’s creative genius. Come join us to create and have a supportive sounding board for your creativity. The Art Club is open to Teens and Tween in grades 6-12. Preference is given to Heggan Library cardholders. Register now, supplies are limited.

April 13 – Little Linguistas: K-5 Intro to Spanish – 7 p.m.

Children in grades K-5 are welcome to learn basic and beginner Spanish through games and another fun activities.

April 14 – NJ Writers Resource Group – 6:30 p.m.

A group of local writers meets in the library on the second Tuesday of each month. Aspiring writers ages 16 and up are invited to come and write, share, be inspired, and enjoy the company of other writers.

Interested in lively teen and tween book discussions? Come join us to chat!

Chapter Chat is a Heggan YA focused book club. This group is led by Teen Advisory Board members. This book club meets monthly to discuss popular authors and works of YA fiction. Participants generally select a theme for the books and authors to be discussed each month.

April 15 – Kids’ Crochet Club – 6:30 p.m.

Kids in 1st-5th grade are invited to join us to learn basic crochet, or to bring along works-in-progress. All levels welcome! Supplies provided, though you may want to invest in a cheap hook and yarn to continue practicing at home!

April 16 – Non Fiction Addiction: The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff – 11:30 a.m.

Join us for a discussion of The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff. New York Times Bestseller. Finalist for the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award in Nonfiction. Bloomberg Best Book of 2018. Something has been going wrong on many college campuses in the last few years. Speakers are shouted down. Students and professors say they are walking on eggshells and are afraid to speak honestly. Rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide are rising-on campus as well as nationally. How did this happen? This is a book for anyone who is confused by what is happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live, work, and cooperate across party lines. All adults are welcome to join us for this discussion. 

April 16 – Jigsaw Puzzle Club – 1 p.m.

Are you a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast? Drop in for socializing and jigsaw puzzle fun. This event is open to adults. Advance registration is encouraged.

April 16 – Little Builders Club – 1:30 p.m.

This is 45 minutes of free play with all kinds of different blocks and Duplos. We will read one short story and then play for the rest of the time. 

Registration required. Heggan Cardholders only. 

April 16 – S.M.I.L.E. – 6:30 p.m.

S.M.I.L.E. (Silent Mentors in Literary Education): Read to a dog or cat! For registration, please call or visit the library.

April 18 – Tai Chi Chih: Joy Thru Movement – 1:30 p.m.

T’ai Chi Chih is a gentle moving mediation meant to activate, circulate, and balance the body’s energy. It promotes peace and well-being. Join certified instructor Candy Moraczewski for a relaxing session of T’ai Chi Chih. All fitness levels and abilities are welcome. No special equipment is needed. This program is limited to adult Heggan cardholders. Advance registration is required. Attendees must arrive five minutes before the start of the class. Please understand latecomers will not be admitted. 

April 18 – Earth Day Story and Craft – 3 p.m.

Kids in grades K-5, join us for a story to celebrate Earth Day, followed by a fun craft!

April 18 – Jay Daniels concert: “A Year in Review: 1966” – 3 p.m. Open to cardholders. Celebrates the music of the year the library first opened in 1966. Advance registration required.

April 19 – Raptors and Reptiles: A Visit from Woodford Cedar Run and its animals – 2 p.m. All welcome. Advance registration required.

April 20 – Mah Jongg Club – 1 p.m. Open to all adults. Advance registration required.

April 20 – Teen Photography Club – 4 p.m.

This club offers a program to learn and practice picture taking skills as well as to connect with others who share an interest in photography! 

April 20 – Pokemon Trainer Hangout – 4:30 p.m.

Join us for Pokémon games and crafts and Pokémon trading card game. For grades k-5.

April 20 – Mystery Book Discussion Group – 6:30 p.m.

The Mystery Book Discussion Group meets on the third Monday of each month. This discussion is open to everyone. Registration is not required.

April 21 – Friends of the Library – 4 p.m.

This is the monthly meeting of the Friends of the Library. Everyone is welcome.  Join us to see how you can support the library.

April 21 – Attracting Butterflies to Your Backyard: Presented by Debbie Hadley of Wild Jersey – 6:30 p.m.

Just in time for Spring planting! Enjoy a presentation from Debbie Hadley of Wild Jersey on how to attract butterflies to your backyard. Debbie covers the basics of butterfly gardening and more. Learn why you need both nectar and host plants to support a butterfly population. She’ll also talk about butterfly behaviors, and which weeds you should keep around for caterpillars. You will get a packet of free seeds to help get you started on your lovely new butterfly garden! This program is open to all adults, with priority given to Heggan cardholders.
