Moorestown Ecumenical Neighborhood Development Inc. (MEND) has announced the appointment of Janet S. Thomas as its board of trustees chair.

A member of the board since January 2021, Thomas has been a committed advocate for MEND’s mission and will now lead the board in guiding the organization’s next phase of growth and impact.

Thomas’ connection to MEND is lifelong, as her father, the late Warren D. Sawyer, was among the organization’s founding members in the late 1960s. Her involvement and dedication to MEND’s cause reinforce the nonprofit’s intergenerational values and steadfast mission to maintain and expand affordable housing in South Jersey.

“Janet’s personal connection to MEND and professional experience make her an ideal leader for this role,” said Eileen Wirth, the organization’s president and CEO. “Her belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and kindness reflects the root of our mission to provide safe and affordable housing and create opportunities for our residents to thrive.”

“I am honored to serve as board chair, because this work is close to my heart,” Thomas said. “My father believed that a safe, affordable home is the foundation for a better life and I share that belief. I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry forward his legacy and to work alongside MEND’s leadership to expand access to safe, quality homes for families and individuals in our communities.”

MEND is dedicated to providing safe and affordable rental housing to senior citizens, people with disabilities and families of low and moderate income. To learn more, visit https://mendinc.org/.
