The Women’s Club of Monroe Township is making an impact in the community one project at a time.
Among its efforts is the “You Are Not Alone” project, which supports victims of rape and other sex crimes.
“The … project was created to provide compassionate, tangible support to rape victims following their sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) exam,” said club chair Leona Grubbs Farmer. “While medical care addresses critical physical needs, survivors often leave the exam without basic personal items or comforting resources.
“Our goal is to bridge the gap between with dignity, care and reassurance.”
The club drive seeks donations such as pants, leggings and sweatpants in sizes small to 2XL; underwear of all sizes; and socks. Also desired are small blankets; travel-size hygiene products; journals and pens; stress balls; snacks with a long shelf life; and small water bottles.
The drive continues through the end of April. All items must be new and can be dropped off at Sam’s Barber Shop on the Black Horse Pike in Williamstown; the Washington Township Ambulance Hall; Luxe Nail Salon at Turnersville’s Cross Keys Commons, next to Ross; and Chews United Methodist Church on the Black Horse Pike in Glendora.
“These will be distributed back to the hospitals SANE programs,” Farmer explained, “and given to sexual assault victims after the completion of their forensic exam, offering them dignity, warmth and reassurance during an incredibly difficult moment.”
The club is also hosting a yard-sale fundraiser at 720 Chatsford Road in Williamstown on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Every purchase helps us continue making a positive impact in our community,” a flyer for the sale notes. “Your support truly makes a difference.”
The Women’s Club of Monroe Township is also partnering with another Williamstown nonprofit, Finn’s Friends, to construct an all-inclusive park. Club members will also attend Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2p.m. at the Pfeiffer Community Center.
