It is with deep sadness that the Harrison Township Recreation Commission shares the passing of our beloved recreation board member and dedicated summer camp counselor, Eileen Goodman Tharp, who passed away on Feb. 11 at the age of 66.

Eileen’s connection to recreation began in the early 1990s, where her warm spirit, patience and genuine love for children made her an irreplaceable part of our summer camp family. Year after year, Eileen showed up with a smile, a kind word, and an unwavering commitment to making every child’s summer experience memorable and meaningful. Her dedication truly shaped the lives of countless children throughout our community.

After a distinguished career as a beloved teacher at Aura Elementary School, most people would have considered their work done. Not Eileen. Her love for community and recreation never wavered. She continued to give generously of her time and talent as an active volunteer on our recreation board, where her wisdom, dedication and big heart guided our programs and events.

Eileen was more than a counselor, a teacher, and a volunteer – she was a true pillar of our community. Her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering dedication to the children and families of Harrison Township left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

To her family, please know that Eileen’s legacy lives on in every child she inspired, every life she touched, and every memory she helped create. She will be forever in our hearts.

Eileen, our recreation family will miss you more than words can express. Thank you for everything. Rest easy, dear friend.
