A fire that broke out on Feb. 1 at a privately owned barn in the area of Heilig and Barnsboro roads was under control in about 20 minutes, according to the Mantua fire department.

There were no injuries. An investigation by the Mantua fire marshal’s office is ongoing, but foul play has been ruled out.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:25 a.m. and confirmed that all animals in the barn had been removed before the fire and were unharmed, according to Capt. Victor Torino, who also responded to the scene. A rescue squad used multiple hand lines to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at 11:46 a.m. with no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Besides the Mantua fire department, firefighters from Pitman Fire Company No. 1 and departments in Harrison Township, Glassboro, Washington Township, Woodbury, West Deptford and East Greenwich helped battled the blaze.

Mantua officials posted pictures of the fire on social media and area residents praised the work of firefighters.

“Thank you to the firefighters and their families for being who you are,” said Jeannine Stahl on Facebook. “A very special breed.”

“I’ve been hearing fire engines far too much lately,” noted Nancy Toth-Kowalik. “So incredibly glad everyone is safe and thank you for all that you do.”
