DPW continuing ongoing storm cleanup

Moorestown’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is continuing to manage post-winter storm cleanup despite challenging conditions.

Residents may notice that some roadways – especially residential streets – do not look as clear as they have in past winters. This is in part due to an historic stretch of frigid temperatures (the last few nights have seen lows in the teens, and salt is ineffective below 20 degrees). It is also due to a regional shortage of road salt that is impacting Moorestown as well as many other municipalities across New Jersey.  Moorestown is managing limited road salt availability this season by using available materials thoughtfully, prioritizing main roads, intersections, curves, hills, and known trouble spots, while continuing plowing and scraping where conditions allow.

The township appreciates residents who have taken the time to share areas of concern. Each call and report received is carefully logged and reviewed so crews can respond as efficiently and safely as possible. To help DPW teams stay focused on field work, the township kindly asks residents to refrain from making repeat calls about the same issue, unless conditions have changed or there is an urgent safety concern. Reducing duplicate calls helps our staff spend more time addressing needs in the community.

With another round of snow expected this weekend, residents can help by slowing down, allowing extra stopping distance and moving vehicles off streets when storms are forecast so crews can clear roads curb-to-curb. Please also take steps to avoid getting snow back on the roadways. You can do this by cleaning off your car before travelling and by residents (and their landscapers) not pushing or blowing snow back into roadways which can create unsafe conditions.
