Michelle Powell was one of two new members sworn in during the Harrison Township Committee’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.
The Harrison Township Committee hosted its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 5 and swore in two new members.
Jeff Jacques and Michelle Powell will each serve a three-year term, seats they won in the November election. Jacques has been a member for three years and Powell returns after serving from 2022 to 2024.
“As we begin this next chapter together, we commit to listening more than speaking, collaborating more than deciding alone and working tirelessly to make our township not just a place where you live, but a place where you belong,” the two said in a statement.
“Whether it’s supporting our local businesses, preserving our small-town charm, improving our public services, or making smart decisions for future growth, you can count on us to carry these goals in every discussion and every vote.”
Powell takes the seat that was held by Lawrence Moore, whose term ended on Dec. 31.
“In my role as deputy mayor, I’ve been proud to support and strengthen the programs and services that make Harrison Township so special,” Moore noted in a statement. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done to enhance our recreation commission. I’m proud that we’ve expanded our Active Adults program, giving our seniors a place to connect, stay engaged and be recognized as an essential part of our community fabric.
“And I’m proud of the progress we’ve made to expand our police and fire services,” he added, “ensuring our first responders have the resources, training and staffing they need to keep our residents safe. That work will continue and it will benefit our town for years to come.”
Adam Wingate was chosen mayor at the meeting – for the second consecutive year – and TJ Coakley will be his deputy.
“Over the past year, Harrison Township has thrived, and the committee remains firmly committed to serving and supporting our residents,” Wingate observed. “This commitment guides every decision we make and every challenge we face.
“I look forward to the year ahead with confidence, focus and a shared sense of purpose as we continue working on behalf of our community.”
The next committee meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Monday township municipal building.
